What’s a good St. Patrick’s Day if there isn’t some sort of green food? These green glazed, Lucky Charms covered, cake mix baked donuts are the perfect treat for a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast surprise.
First things first, let’s talk about baked donuts for a second. They are so freaking easy to make. All you have to do is get your hands on some donut pans, (mine were only $13 for a set of two on Amazon), fill the pans 2/3 full with batter, and then bake for about 8 minutes. They’ll quickly fluff up into the sweetest, most perfectly round little cakes.
And guess what… all it takes is a box of cake mix, an egg, water, and oil–that’s it! If you can find the premade box mix, then you can have whatever flavor donut you can imagine in just a few minutes.
For these super sweet donuts, I used a box of yellow cake mix, homemade kelly green glaze, and because I believe all desserts should be a little extra, a sprinkle or two of Lucky Charms. It really made the donuts magically delicious for St. Patrick’s Day.
St. Patrick's Day Baked Donuts
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 T butter
- 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 T milk
- green food coloring
- 2-3 cups Lucky Charms cereal
Preheat oven to 425 F. Spray donut pan with cooking spray.
In a large bowl, combine cake mix, egg, vegetable oil and water and beat until just combined.
Fill each pan cavity approximately ⅔ full.
Bake 7-9 minutes or until the tops of the donuts spring back when touched. Let cool in pan for 4-5 minutes before removing.
For glaze: In a small bowl, stir together powdered sugar, butter, milk, and food coloring until sugar is completely dissolved.
Dip one side of donut into the glaze and let harden on cooling rack. Sprinkle on Lucky Charms immediately.
