Sweet and refreshing, this Blackberry Whiskey Lemonade will soon be your go-to summer cocktail.
Alright, guys. I don’t know what’s happening to me. I used to hate summer weather and hide indoors all season safe from the heat. But recently, I’ve spent so much time lounging on my deck with the dogs or going for a run in 90 degree weather. I might be broken. Or, I might be slowly realizing that I need some light, refreshing cocktails by my side in this heat.
Practically every drink I want to make has citrus in it, and this is no different. Everything about citrus fruits just screams summer to me. The smell, taste and bright, fun colors. Something about topping something with a fresh lemon just makes me happy.
This Blackberry Whiskey Lemonade is perfect for the beginner bartender, and the only tool you need is a shaker. You’ll begin by making a blackberry simple syrup and then combining all ingredients with ice, shaking, and serving. If you’re real fancy you can even garnish it with a slice of lemon, blackberries and a sprig of rosemary.
Blackberry Whiskey Lemonade
- 12 oz blackberries
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/7 oz whiskey
- 7.5 oz lemonade
- 1 rosemary sprig
In medium saucepan, cook blackberries and sugar for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until you have a thick syrup
Strain syrup through mesh sieve
Let syrup cool for 20 minutes
Shake all ingredients in shaker with a handful of ice to chill drinks
Pour over ice, garnish with rosemary and enjoy!
If you’d rather make your own lemonade recipe instead of using a premade mixture, feel free to do so! I love the idea of natural, fresh ingredients in recipes. But I just appreciate simplicity even more. You could also try adding a couple ounces of sparkling water to the mixture for a drink that isn’t as whisky-y.
