I’m a little OCD when it comes to just about everything. I like lists, organization, and planning. I can only begin to explain the processes that go on in my head when taking on huge projects like buying a house. While trying to organize my brain, I knew I had to come up with a cheat sheet for all the homes I look at. Hopefully, this house hunting checklist can help you, too, be a smart shopper.
I only have five days to visit Georgia, tour nine homes, make an offer, then finalize a contract. Without these sheets, I’d be getting all the homes confused and mixed up. I’d forget- which one had that awful bathtub again?
I made sure to make sections for each main area of the house, the condition of major features, and then notes for the neighborhood. I left out some of the simpler rooms like extra bedrooms or flex spaces since those usually don’t have much else besides four walls. But feel free to track those too!
Download this house hunting checklist from Google Drive.
Print five to 10 of these off and triple-check everything you can before you leave each home. You might not be able to get to some of these items (they’re in the crawlspace, etc) so get a professional’s help. You don’t want to skimp on the home inspections!
I hope by having a house hunting checklist in hand, I’ll be prepared to think logically about each property. I’m leaving for Atlanta tomorrow morning and then drive a few hours south to our future home. I can’t wait to use these checklists and share my thoughts on each house!
